Reverting the revert

A new approach to the union action went out in the afternoon, was reverted in the evening, and was re-applied ninety minutes later. The first version was right about the algorithm and wrong about one edge: columns present in one input and not the other.

The revert bought a stable production while the edge was fixed; the second attempt held. The lesson is about the revert, not the bug.
