Flatten the architecture, keep the app

An honest ADR on removing abstraction from a small app.

The Flutter version was retired in September 2026; the inventory is being rewritten from scratch in Next.js.

The components inventory was rewritten from Next.js with PostgreSQL and Docker to Flutter web on Supabase, and its layered architecture collapsed into a flat tree of services, providers and pages.

The README records the before and after: dozens of files and a long list of analyzer errors on one side, zero on the other. For an app with one developer and a few hundred rows, the benefit of the layers never arrived. Removing them was the right call, and writing down why is what makes it an ADR.

Takeaway

Abstraction is a cost you pay up front for a benefit that arrives with scale.
